COURTS AND CONSTRUCTION

At Karnataka Pickleball Federation, we’re committed to expanding access to quality pickleball courts across the state. Whether you’re looking to build a new court, renovate an existing space, or learn more about what’s required to create the perfect pickleball environment, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Pickleball Court Construction in 4 Phases.

    • Site Assessment:
Begin by assessing the space where the court will be built. Ensure the area is flat and large enough to accommodate the standard 20x44 feet court dimensions, plus additional space around the court for movement.

    • Court Layout Design:
Create a layout plan that includes dimensions, markings, net placement, and other key elements like fencing or seating. Decide if you will have one court or multiple courts, and whether the courts will be indoor or outdoor.

    • Budgeting:
Develop a budget for the construction project, including surface material, net system, fencing, lighting, and labor costs. Factor in any potential site preparation like leveling or drainage requirements.

    • Permit and Zoning Approvals:
Check local regulations and zoning laws for any required permits. This step is crucial for ensuring your court is legally compliant.

    1. Groundwork and Leveling:
The site needs to be leveled and prepared for installation. This may involve grading the ground, removing debris, and ensuring proper drainage is in place to avoid water accumulation.

    2. Foundation Setup:
Choose a surface material such as asphalt, concrete, or acrylic. Once the material is chosen, a base layer is installed and compacted to ensure a solid foundation for the court.

    3. Surface Coating Application:
After the foundation is set, apply a smooth surface coating, such as acrylic, to provide an even playing area. Ensure that the surface is non-slip and weather-resistant if it's outdoors.

    4. Court Marking Layout:
Mark the court with precise lines, including baselines, sidelines, the non-volley zone (kitchen), and centerlines. Use high-quality paint for durability and visibility.

    • Net System Installation:
Install the net posts and net. The net should be 36 inches high at the sidelines and 34 inches at the center. Make sure the posts are firmly anchored into the ground or court surface.

    • Lighting Installation (if applicable):
If your court will be used for evening play, install lighting systems that meet visibility and safety standards. Ensure the lights are placed to minimize shadows on the court.

    • Fencing and Enclosure (optional):
For professional or community use, install fencing around the court to prevent balls from leaving the play area. Consider adding seating or a resting area around the court for players.

    1. Inspection and Quality Check:
Inspect the court to ensure all elements are installed correctly. Check for evenness, proper markings, and the sturdiness of the net system.

    2. Maintenance Planning:
Develop a maintenance plan for regular upkeep. This includes resurfacing as needed, repainting lines, cleaning the court, and checking for any wear and tear on equipment.

    3. Soft Launch and Play Test:
Conduct a soft launch by allowing a few players to test the court. This will help identify any adjustments needed before full-scale use.

    4. Grand Opening:
Once all systems are go, plan an opening event or tournament to introduce the court to your community!
